ABOUT ME
I’m Courtney Spencer (aka court) a curator, collaborator, and artist originally from Australia, now based in Yorkshire, UK, since 2005.
I curate cultural projects across the UK, focussing on the North of England for clients including The British Library, National Trust, Leeds Playhouse, and The Mercer in Harrogate. My work focuses on curating exhibitions, sourcing artworks, and commissioning art for both public and private settings. In 2022, I launched The Art Court to connect people with incredible art in a welcoming and accessible way - without the wank!
My professional journey bridges the worlds of art, design, and business. I have a degree in Design (Advertising and Marketing), an MA in Business and previously worked in marketing. This blend gives me expertise in curation, marketing, fundraising, and cultural project management. I love collaborating with passionate people to deliver incredible projects.
I was Director of an arts venue for five years, founded the annual Leeds Summer Group Show in 2015, and wrote a monthly column, Snooping Through Studios, for The State of the Arts.
I am also an artist. My practice is inspired by my environment, and often reflects on themes of memory, place, and exploration. Growing up in remote areas of Western Australia shaped my instinctive approach to materials such as rocks, sand, dirt, sticks, and found objects. My work spans sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, and film.
Whether you’re looking to commission art, source unique artworks, or collaborate on a cultural project in the UK or abroad, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch to explore how we might work together.
