JOANNA FURSMAN
Born in Rugby and currently based in Birmingham, Joanna Fursman is an artist and doctoral researcher based at Birmingham School of Art, UK. Her research investigates the work of the image in representations of pedagogy and producing alternative propositions of school. Her photo investigations involve collaborative production with young people and students in Art Schools. Performance with props and soft sculpture trace movement between pedagogical interactions.
Joanna studied Art and Design at East Warwickshire College, Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast and MA Art Practice and Education at the School of Art, Birmingham. She was a Co-director at Catalyst Arts and collaborator with Factotum in Belfast and Source Magazine, Ireland. Between 2005 and 2015 Joanna taught Art and Design in UK Primary and Secondary schools and has also taught in Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands and New York.
