DONNA COLEMAN
Donna is a Leeds (UK) based artist with a practice focussed on expressionist drawing. She creates visually intensive portraits, depicting the fragile human condition. Her work explores how raw emotions such as fear, paranoia and anxiety, can distort our perceptions, make us become disconnected and in turn effect our behaviour. Her latest body of work explores the effects social media and lockdowns have on peoples wellbeing. She wants the viewer of her work to recognise the shared vulnerability we are all experiencing during the global pandemic.
Self Portrait 2020, depicts her own emotions and sense of isolation during the first lockdown. The dark blue square covering her eye represents the feeling the walls were closing in on her. Trauma Mask, is about dissociating to cope with distressing situations.
