BALBINDER BROADBENT
(b. 1973 Leeds, UK)
Balbinder Broadbent makes abstract paintings using rich layers of symbolic colour. These reveal and conceal shapes and marks, as though they are emerging from our subconscious or on the edges of our vision. The use of shape, colour, form and gestural marks are distilled into a personal visual language possessing unique characteristics that, like fingerprints, identify the artist.
Originally from Leeds, Balbinder graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Hull School of Art & Design, followed by an MA in Fine Art, Painting from the University of East London. She has been a regular exhibitor and prize-winner in the Harrogate Open and has shown with Silson Contemporary in Harrogate since 2016. She has also exhibited at Scarborough Art Gallery, 2020, Dean Clough Galleries, Halifax, 2021 and had her first solo show at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate in 2021.
