CHLOE SMITH

(b. 1995 Worksop, UK)

Chloe is a Morley based artist focusing on alternative photography processes such as solargraphy, lumen printing, and analogue photography, including Polaroid. Some of her experimental practices involve physically manipulating the exposed film using 'souping' methods, such as soaking film in hot water and adding household ingredients like soap and lemon juice. This method often results in colour changes, visual artefacts and the ability to lift the emulsion from the Polaroid film backing.

Experimental methods allow Chloe to add unexpected colour, texture and character. Chloe's works revolve around her Yorkshire surroundings, taking inspiration from the shifting seasons and landscapes, with many of her photographic works captured in the countryside, such as hiking to Cannon Hall and Ilkley.
