KATE EVANS
(b. 1948 Dewsbery, UK)
Kate Evans paints in acrylics on fretworked wood, which is layered to give a 3D effect to her paintings. This is a technique which she evolved herself, having learned to use a coping saw when she was working with Leeds Playhouse Theatre in Education company in the 1980s. She cuts bits out of plywood, paints them, and then the final stage is assembling the composition. And if it doesn't work it can be taken apart and the bits recycled into other piece of work and recomposed.
Her principal subjects are still life (often including food) and nature (birds and plants in particular). She comes from a family of artists, although she has no formal art training herself. She has had exhibitions in Kent, Sussex, Accrington and Halifax, as well as several local ones.
