MIA MAI SYMONDS

(b. 1997 Leeds, UK)

Mia Mai Symonds is interested in the complex and interconnected relationships we have with our everyday fabric. Through her practice she explores the ways in which these common fabrics that play such an integral part of our day to day existence make up a universal language and connects us on a global level.

Her work is rooted in topics of embodiment, material value and the social, political, and emotional aspects around cloth. Combining perspectives of the personal and the global, Mia is interested in themes of language, tactility, shelter and romanticism. The sculptural forms she produces are offered as a space for re-imagining; for considering the depth of our relationships with cloth and the ontological effects of our engagements with it.
