Bren’s portraits tread the line somewhere between figurative and abstract and are rarely about capturing an accurate likeness. Never intending to flatter, her portraits are not blemish free. Lines shadows, tones, surface and colour are exaggerated to reflect this. The subjects are almost always solitary, often establishing contact or connection with the viewer through a direct gaze. Bren has shown work widely throughout the UK. She has exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and the Ruth Borchard Portrait Prize.
