DAYLE HELSBY
(b. 1959 Colwyn Bay, Wales)
Dayle Helsby creates a sort of visual music that evokes distant memories, moods and half-imagined scenes. His paintings come from the imagination, memory and from ideas triggered by chance encounters, sounds and observation. He aims to develop potent atmosphere and create paintings with edge, ambiguity, poignancy and a whiff of humour. He often includes a narrative or psychological element and a touch of mystery - as if something has just happened, is happening or is about to happen. Following recent, ongoing adventures abroad, Dayle's current work presents an idiosyncratic interpretation of Spanish life and offers oblique glimpses of Spanish culture.
