SARAH GRANT
(b. 1977 Leeds, UK)
Sarah Grant's work explores the potential for painting to change the meaning of found or iconic imagery. The images are concerned with the female experience and explore a sense of charged strength alongside vulnerability. The painterly gestures are fleeting moments. Cropped details convey a sense of temporality or the experience of a memory triggered by a sensation in the present. It is this sense of identity and collective memory which the artist conveys as psychological space in the work. Sarah employs an immediate, liquid style of painting. This work has been developed whilst studying for an MA in Painting at Manchester Metropolitan University. She also studied Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 2000.
