RETURNING PROJECT
This is a project I began in Dec 2019 with an 8 week research trip to Western Australia to revisit the 5 places I lived during primary school. My Dad worked for the Bureau of Meteorology which meant we moved a lot and I went to 5 different primary schools over 7 years.
I hadn’t returned to many of these places since my childhood and as part of the trip spent a week in each place for every year I had lived there during primary school. I spent 2 weeks in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, a week in Bibra Lake - Perth, a week in Forrest, 2 weeks in Meekatharra and a week in Esperance.
Whilst there I packed and shipped 120kg of materials back to my studio in the UK and took sound recordings to be used to make works in response to the trip. In June 2020, 18 months after returning from the trip, I began a 7 week residency in my own studio to begin making work in relation to this project.
