JULIA POMEROY
Julia's paintings come from personal interactions and challenge the mundane repetitiveness of the everyday. Through an ongoing exploration of colour and light, she reconstructs narratives in response to the rich energies emitted from contemporary figures, shared within architecturally interesting and psychologically charged spaces. With these components she constructs pictorial worlds, capturing unguarded states of mind, relatable fleeting moments, and the sometimes familiar and often unknowing parts of our revolving lives. Contrasting the easily missed beauty and nauseating reality of our everyday. These works showcasing the contrast between local venues in Leeds of bars and cafes, and life staying in our homes during the pandemic. Inspired from her own experiences in these social settings before the global pandemic, they reflect that time of unknowing and joy of being in those locations. Whereas the other works reflect a mundane and flat plane standard of living under the social distancing restrictions.
