KATHY BRUCE
Kathy is an environmental sculptor and collage artist based in the UK and US. She is interested in the way in which the human body/anatomy corresponds to structures in nature, plants, trees, and the landscape. This can manifest itself either internally or externally in the form of patterns, designs, or metaphorical context; the subtle yet enchanting similarities between the inner life of plants, trees and humans. She states: “What are humans if not plants, trees, and fungi, themselves, made-up of organic material?” These collages focus on ecological entanglements and the interconnectedness of life forms, structures, nature, biology and botany.
Kathy has exhibited her work internationally including the US, UK, Senegal, Taiwan, France, Denmark, Peru and Canada. She has an MFA from Yale University School of Art and has received numerous grants and awards including a Fulbright Hayes Senior Scholarship Grant for Lecturing and Research in Puno Peru 2012 and 1983, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship.
