Leeds Summer Group Show 2021

LAUREL HAUGE

Laurel works with photography, video, and performance, but her more intimate works focus on themes from her personal life are often realised through writing and bookmaking. In this piece she explores feelings of displacement, separation, and uncertainty experienced while living in New York for just under two years whilst in a long distance relationship. The glitchy and low-res, yet beautiful imagery in her works are Google Earth views of the ocean and seas between New York and Italy. In the video, a robotic voice meditates on feelings Laurel and her partner had to absorb during this time. Though the piece stems from the internet’s mediation and support of a relationship, its content laments the loss of touch and visceral interaction.
