FARWA RIZVI

(b. 1995 Lahore, Pakistan)

Farwa Rizvi’s work exhibits the contemporary ideas of faith and identity emerging from and associated with the historical event of Karbala, the life and martyrdom of the family of the Holy Prophet of Islam. Her interest point has been the religious processions and rituals that take place annually in remembrance of the historical event using modern objects, identities and one’s own self. Utilising mixed art mediums, Farwa's practice and research explores the contemporary narrative, interpretations, and symbolism of a sect in Islam, Shi’ism. As well as the impact of these symbolic associations on the modern generation and ways of life. Her work has been displayed in galleries in Pakistan and in the UK. She recently exhibited her work with a group of other artists in Patrick Studios in Leeds. Farwa is currently doing a Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Leeds.
