RUTH FULLER
Ruth studied fine art photography and has an interest in the aesthetic and documentary nature of photographs, which is now reflected in her paintings. Her current works are rooted in a photographic project of her sister Emily which she started in 2000. These paintings are a re-thinking of old family photographs that look back at the images with the knowledge of the way time has unfolded since they were taken. Thoughts and feelings have crept into the work through the forms of creatures, unexpected interruptions and strange colours and in this way the images have become re-imagined and fictionalised. They are open to interpretation, but are in part a melancholy reflection of family life affected by the development of schizophrenia in her sister. As well as these aspects, Ruth is interested in a sense of the unexpected and a notion of otherworldliness in the everyday.
