ZENAIRA MAHMOOD
Zenaira is an artist based in the North East of England who uses colour, perceptual depth and space to create playful painting installations which continuously shift the viewers perspective. Her work investigates the materiality and potential physicality of paint and painting processes as well as painting as installation. Generated by her own photographic observations of the urban landscape and architecture, these enquiries revolve around the relationship between the picture plane, perceptual depth and the viewer. The work not only exploits the strong linear components of western perspectival conventions but also examines the potential of amplified colour and tone to enhance or disrupt our perceptions of space. Her paintings exist three-dimensionally and incorporate the movement of the viewer, providing a continuously shifting perspective which leads to a playful tension between the permanent architecture of the space and the impermanent artwork.
