MARIEL BORST PAUWELS
(b. 1960 Ede, the Netherlands)
Mariel Borst Pauwels’s work is mainly based on observations of anonymous public spaces such as railway stations, motorways, multi storey car parks and places we access online. The alienating aspects that these places provoke is what informs much of her work. Her starting points are her own and found photographs and she then lets the process of painting and the properties of the used materials lead the way. The overlooked gains importance. Mariel is originally from the Netherlands and has lived and worked in West Yorkshire for over 20 years.
